Production Technology

Salsan Steels (P) Ltd. adapted the TMT/Q&T (Quenching & Tempering Technology System) for Manufacturing of international quality rebars because this is the first choice all over the country.

Directly after the last rolling mill stand, the steel bar surface receives a short intensive water cooling as it passes through the System. The rapid temperature reduction of the bar periphery converts the surface layer of steel bar to a hardened structure.

On leaving the pipe, the intensive quenching is followed by further cooling in atmosphere, so that the temperature between the hot core and the outer cooled surface is equalized – the surface layer gets tempered from the heat of the core. The resultant structure is a tempered Martensite zone at the periphery and a fine grain ferrite-pearlite structure in the central zone. Due to this unique and precise technology, ATLAS rebars have all the desired properties of high strength, good toughness and ductility.

Finer Grain Structure:

Size reduction from ingots to the bars is done gradually in multiple stages for better and consistent grain structure. Refined and finer grain structure gives better metallurgical properties to the bars for longer life.

Customized Product:

Chemical, metallurgical and physical properties as per design requirements of clients are given by ATLAS Steels. Additional relevant services are offered as per specific customer requirements.

Bend Properties:

ATLAS TMT bars have excellent bend properties due to the unique ductility (elongation values) obtained by employing the TMT/Q&T Technology.

Higher Strength:

ATLAS TMT bars have high strength and are available in all the grades. So, now you can have high strength bars and thus can easily cut the overall costs by optimizing consumption.

Corrosion Resistance:

Controlled water-cooling prevents the formation of coarse carbides, which has been cited as the main cause for the corrosive nature of common bar. Another reason for better corrosion resistance is the absence of surface stresses caused by the cold twisting (and Torsteel) process.

Perfect Roundness:

ATLAS TMT bars have high strength and are available in all the grades. So, now you can have high strength bars and thus can easily cut the overall costs by optimizing consumption.

Weld ability:

ATLAS bars with carbon content less than 0.25% can be used for butt and other weld joints without reduction in strength at the joints.

Fire Resistance:

Unlike Tor steel and CTD Rebars, ATLAS bars have high thermal stability. They are a preferred choice in case of elevated temperatures of 400 - 600° C applications (chimney, fires).


Higher Bonding Strength:

ATLAS bars with their uniform and precise rib pattern ensure better bonding strength with concrete. This gives higher strength to the structure and hence a longer life.

Precise Gauge Control:

Gauge Control System ensures precise and accurate weight of the bars by controlling gauge of the bars automatically between stringent tolerances.

Formability:

Due to very high elongation values and consistent properties throughout the length of bar, ATLAS bars have excellent workability and bend ability.

Strain Ageing:

Due to unique, scientific manufacturing process and chemical composition, ATLAS bars show no tendency of brittleness either during welding or cold deformation of welded joints.

RAW MATERIALS

ATLAS TMT is made from In-house manufactured ingots.
in our own Integrated Steel Plant.

Steel used is made by reprocessed and scrap materials. No purification is done during the process of steel making. This results in to presence of high percentage of impurities in the finished products.

ROLLING

Rolled in the fully automatic rolling mill of international standards. TMT bars rolled are of uniform size and strength which ensures long lasting construction.

Conventional equipments are used for rolling of bars resulting in to uneven size and strength.

TECHNOLOGY

Made by proven technology  TMT/Q&T (Quenching & Tempering Technology System), which gives the bars higher yield strength, extra toughness and high elongation value.

Due to non- standard TMT process, bars made are of 
uneven strength and thus unreliable for good construction. Bars show uneven bend quality.

PROCESSING

Uniform rib pattern of rebars as the ribs are made of 
using the CNC notch cutting machine. This ensures 
strong bonding with concrete.

Ribs are generally cut by using the manual method 
resulting in uneven rib pattern thereby making bonding weaker in the structure.

RING TEST

When cut ends of rebars are dipped in the NITRAL Solution (1 part of Nitric Acid + 9 parts of Alcohol) two distinct rims of dark tempered martensite rim and light ferrite-pearlite core appears, which exhibits desired 
micro structure for quality construction.

Due to improper quenching No such rims / rings are 
visible when dipped in the NITRAL Solution. Rings only appears when the Quenching and Self tempering of Bars 
are done properly.

STRENGTH

Yield strength ranging from 430 to 460 N/mm

Yield  due to improper and strength ranges from 360 to 390 N/mm inadequate QST treatment.

ELONGATION

Generally rebars will have elongation from 16 to 28% depending on final yield strength.

Very high elongation percentage ranging from 32-40% 
due to improper and inadequate QST treatment.

SPECIFICATION

As per BIS standards. Ensures safe construction, can with stand fire hazards, Seismic turbulences, etc.

Not conforming to IS specifications. Resulting into unsafe construction and can not resist seismic turbulences & fire hazards.
